Food is composed of multiple chemicals that combine in a complicated network to create a structure that we eat. Sweeteners are an excellent way to make such foods taste good so that they can be eaten and enjoyed. We currently use erythritol as a key sweetener in our Energy Pods. In this randomized double-blind placebo-controlled crossover pilot study(1) volunteers were given 10, 25, or 50 grams of erythritol to see if there was a dose-dependent effect on the body. Scientists were able to find that erythritol had a dose-dependent stimulation of CCK, aGLP-1, and PYY which are satiety hormones associated with inducing the sensation of satiety and slowing of gastric emptying, the rate at which our stomach empties. They also found that erythritol had no impact on glucose, insulin, motilin, glucagon, or GIP(glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide) and no impact on blood lipids and uric acid while having no stomach pain, nausea, or vomiting.
These results about the sweetener are promising and may play a key role in helping reduce obesity and associative chronic conditions. It is important to note that the current formulation of Energy Pods use close to 10 grams of erythritol per Energy Pod which is easily tolerated by adults as noted in this study. We will continue to evolve the Energy Pods as quality science is released and we can find ingredients that work for the betterment of humanity. Go get some Energy Pods!
