Recipes are everywhere and can be a great way to make processed foods at home. We recently made a high protein low carb keto bread from a famous recipe that used egg whites, allulose, salt, cream of tartar, and protein powder. However, most recipes are a trap and here’s what we learned:
Engagement Farming
We live in the age of processed information and that's why when you look at pretty much any recipe page, you will see a massive page filled with the story behind the recipe which is used to generate keywords to gain attention to the website so that the website can host advertisers and affiliates for monetary purposes. There is also a trend of putting out imperfect recipes that are used to gain engagement from the public when a person from the public points out issues with the recipe. This allows the influencer, writer, or author to capitalize and monetize on the naivety of consumers.
You Will Fail a Lot
Unless you are making a recipe from a highly established culinary book or a food product that has a track record of decades in the restaurant industry(think pies, cakes, etc.,) the chances of failing are very high. Compound that with the fact that many recipes and blogs will use affiliates or fake reviews to pad their recipes, and you can expect lots of failure and headaches.
People May Not Like It
Healthy recipes are usually not tasty. Many people in the health and nutrition sphere wrongfully assume that healthy must not be tasty but that's not just wrong but also ensures that members of the family or other people will not like the food you make. Think about it: a person working a full-time job at a grocery store or a law firm will never be able to become better at surgery than a surgeon. This is why food companies and food scientists will always create tastier and superior foods, in a much more sanitary condition than your average home kitchen, compared to an average home cook. Play smart, not hard.
It May Not Even Be Healthy!
Many food writers and authors have a very weak understanding of nutrition science or are too busy creating foods rather than understanding the deep science and architecture of food and nutrition science. At the end of the day, these foods may not be healthy at all and maybe contribute to your fat gain or stalling during your fat loss.
You're Using Invisible Labor
To cap this, you will be using unpaid labor to make this recipe. This includes all the time you spent not only making the food, shopping, cleaning, and stowing away dishes, but also all the time you used reading the book, researching, downloading complementary apps, and all the extra peripheral work that is required to bring a recipe to fruition. Learn more about invisible labor here.
You're Buying Expensive Ingredients at Full Retail Price!
As manufacturers, when we buy ingredients for Energy Pods, we buy them at bulk pricing which is drastically cheaper than the price of ingredients you buy at a grocery store or order online. This is because these ingredients have to be portioned, marketed, and placed in fancy packaging to entice you alongside the recipe book you just purchased. In this way, you're not only paying with your labor but also paying for overpriced ingredients.
You Need Expensive Equipment
The recipe we used required a proper mixer which would easily cost $400-600 per unit at retail pricing. In many modern recipes, 'healthy recipes' end up being more of a privilege rather than something sustainable. Meanwhile, investing in high-quality industrialized food products like Energy Pods not only allows cheaper foods down the road but opens up better science so that the world can all have healthy and quality foods everywhere. In other words, "healthy" recipes stifle innovation and set us back when it comes to learning and helping the impoverished.
You Will Not Like it & Go Back to Eating The Good Stuff
Every diet fails close to the 12-month mark and the success rates are abysmal. This means that more than likely you or your co-worker or family member or friend is on a short-term recipe or diet novelty and eventually will go back to eating tastier and more tangible foods that are more convenient and reliable to make. This merely suggests that diet, health, and recipe books are only there for the profit of the author or writer and not the mass public.
Notes About High Protein Recipes and foods
You may have heard that protein is considered the most satiating macronutrient but that is false. Protein's satiety and its capacity to reduce food intake have more to do with the structure of how the protein interacts with other macronutrients and less to do with the amount of protein in a product. Therefore, a recipe of a very high protein bread such as this which deflates rapidly will provide little to no satiety or reduction in food intake.
Invest in a Better Vision
The world needs better-processed foods. At Ketogeek, we have spent years studying food and nutrition science while engaging with world-class researchers, doctors, and culinary artists. Our Energy Pods are not just tried and tested tasty foods approved by Michelin-star chefs but are the benchmark of health, nutrition, science, and engineering. It is this kind of vision we need to usher in better foods of the future rather than squander our time and resources tossing the public from one diet to another or one recipe to another only to set them up to fail. We are done with this charade and so should you.
